Random Musings on a Saturday Afternoon
You ever wonder why people aren’t as cool as the ads they create for events? I always wonder why the people who create the ads, or the parties, or dj the music or design… the people who are creating things, images, places, events, and situations just don’t ever measure up to the hype. It can seem as if in many situations that the pomp and circumstance of things is so inflated and then once you get into whatever it is that was created and find that it is just terribly ordinary! Perhaps I am impossibly hopeful, and naive or its just that people and life seem to be just skating by ordinarily, and ineffectively. I love these party ads for places where they use mysterious, sexy images, and you show up and are inundated with pedestrian, average clones of each other walking around trying to capture attention of the masses whilst they all appear to be the same person morphed into one. I realize in spirituality, that is sort of the goal, we are all as one, apparently, and that we all have so much in common, and we should envision our fellow man as ourselves, but.. (this is a run on sentence).. I am disheartened at times by the overall averageness of society. There is a certain comfort with simplicity but not 100% of the time. Just merely existing and “surviving” is not enough but that is what most people seem to do. They wander around waiting for the next person to pick them up, make them happy, create in them a sense of meaning and importance. I don’t mean to be contradictory, as in, I expect others to create for me a world of mystery and excitement like the ads promise me, or the image or whatever is showing me, but it would be nice if we all collectively had more consciousness of what it is to live, not just survive. If we did that, the ads, the designs, the people would be ever more interesting because they wouldn’t care about attracting people overtly, or pleasing people, or conforming to try to fit in and compromising their uniqueness.. hence, they would be much more interesting.. if we would just break the walls down and be completely ourselves not for the sake of others, but for ourselves and society as a whole. This sheep mentality has me all upside down because we try to walk the walk but it rarely happens at all.
I now must put down my Jordan’s Too small pizza, and salad and prepare to sell alcohol to people from behind a bar. Alcohol seems to bring out the dumb in people, doesn’t it? I think people need to numb their minds because they aren’t living in a way that fulfills them their soul and mind. They need to escape their lives. There is something terribly wrong and each night I pour drinks for people it just proves all my points in the above diatribe. Alcohol brings out the worst in people. Too bad they can’t open up naturally and not want to escape their existence. Alcohol temporarily makes one (definition) retarded: sometimes offensive.
One last thought- try to become more intelligent, it makes one interesting. Have an opinion, think about things, ponder, create, and be happy within yourself- not relying on others for anything.
