The ACADEMi of Life is a place of higher learning offering a fascinating look at human nature through discussions of life’s large questions around family, love, work, money and living.
The purpose of The ACADEMi of Life is to deliver conversational events to stimulate thinking, to deepen our lives and our understanding of ourselves, making the world a better place.
Feb. 24, 2011- Join us for a wise, magical evening of uncommon depth with Elizabeth Gilbert (MY BOSS, DR. HENRY GRAYSON WILL BE IN DIALOGUE WITH LIZ GILBERT THIS NIGHT) and Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor. Both have presented at TED Conference and both were named by Time Magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the world. Dr. Bolte Taylor will be joined by critically acclaimed singer/songwriter Carrie Newcomer.
CLASSES
The great thinker and Rhodes Scholar E. F. Schumacher believed that all through school and university we are given guidance about life and knowledge and generally this guidance had little relevance to the things that we cared about or the way we conducted our lives…the way life was really lived.
Classes are being created to fulfill Schumacher’s observation … to provide the place for people to discuss the things they care about and the things that matter most in life that were never taught in school. The classes are designed to provide useful insights around the big themes in life such as family, relationships, love, money and self-knowing. The attendees of The ACADEMi are lifelong learners who are eager to discuss ideas to enrich their lives.
The provocative and transformative classes are developed by leading artists, designers, authors and academics that are the faculty of The ACADEMi of Life. These great thinkers are also known as ‘Scholarchs’ and offer insights to engage, inspire and enthrall … they do not instruct.
From everyday objects to fashion to packaging and graphics, design solves problems and strives to make the world a better place. If we can design anything and everything, why not design your life?
So many of us dream about the lives we want but don’t get around to living it. This workshop will offer a design process, Deconstruction and Reconstruction™, as a creative tool to help you design and live the life you absolutely love. We will look at our lives creatively and deconstruct it and then reconstruct it.
Come discover how to create the life you love, like a designer! Learn how to be inspirational and intuitive. Use metaphors; be playful, optimistic and constructive. Try different models. Visualize. The workshop will draw from Deconstruction and Reconstruction™ concepts in fields as diverse as design, fashion, art and culinary arts, and the work of thinkers such as Issey Miyake, Ferran Adria, James Dyson and Steve Jobs, for inspiration.
The workshop will be lead by Ayse Birsel an award winning product designer, design strategist and Deconstructionist/Reconstructionist who strives to design the life she wants to live.
