Effortless Style… and Things

teeshirt I had a busy weekend. While Thursday was excellent at the Rye Synagogue as I met some great women and saw the coolest Ann Demeulemeester shoes ever on Anna, who got them at Barney’s in the city on SALE for $384 marked down from $980! What? Yes..I swear to god.  Just look at these http://www.ln-cc.com/ann-demeulemeester/ann-demeulemeester-womens-vitello-shoes/invt/ann020052blk/ !! To Die For!
I got to see Paula from Yara Jewelry, which is always a pleasure. She hand makes some great jewelry, and Ann D’s stuff is handmade, I guess that is why it commands top dollar! Craftsmanship, stitching, uniqueness, sort of like old Calvin Kleinesque, simple, modern, basic colors, in great fabrics and super quality materials.
In this picture, I have my 99Wooster tee shirt by Mike Kosh! Check out his stuff on Ebay. Love it! The very first thing I do when I get a new tee shirt is cut off the neck! UGH, I don’t like the way a bound neck looks on a tee shirt- PASSE!
I had to run to Hawthorne, NY to Hawthorne Auto Parts on Sunday to get rotors and brake pads which was a hilarious experience! Joey, the owner is funny and his store is packed with parts, his chair is amidst all these parts on the floor and he has his dog tied out front, and a cat in his 1980’s spray painted black, convertible Camaro, with no real dashboard, stock with cat sleeping in it, only exiting to pee, and the big fat black cat on the stoop next to the dog! I can’t forget the mustard sandwich remnants (white bread) on one of the boxes near the chair!
I am coming home, see a sign for a warehouse sale, accessories, and pull over to the side of the road and run in and find all sorts of cool bracelets, the puma is my fave, and get a bunch of stuff for a ridiculously LOW, LOW PRICE!
I go back to Fairfield County, after having a new muffler put on the jeep, now new brakes all the way around, new rotors in the front, because you rarely need to change the back ones as the weight when you break is all FRONT END, which I learned from my Charger restoration building friend, Mike…
The harlequin belt is from my 2011 Spring Collection of oliver green D ring belts! So there you have it, some thoughts, some experiences, some hilarious visuals! Super productive weekend… lots done!
I also organized my entire living space, every closet, drawer, cabinet, etc. Every paper spoken for, put away. AHHHH, what a great feeling that is… I am readying myself for Spring after a long hibernation of thinking and becoming a better human being.

People of the Free Mind…

people of the free mindTotally genius idea and designs from an old college friend, John Michael Schlotter who hails from the upstate NY region who now dons the streets of Greenpoint Brooklyn’s fashion row. Congratulations to John for opening a UNISEX clothing store! YES! I love to wear men’s separates and now someone finally has fused together separates for the fashion foreward and has also combined the use of organic and recycled materials! How can you go wrong? Plus, the clothing is exceptionally cool and I would expect nothing less from the handsome young Schlotter whom I met in art school in the 80s!

Not only can this man paint and draw, AND IS A GREAT FASHION PHOTOGRAPHER –but his clothing is modern, fresh, simple, with some very innovative design elements all mixed in! He has lived in Italy as well and that Euro sensability combined with Asian edge is reflected in his line Artists and Revolutionaries. I love the distressed combat style boots he shows. Genderless clothing is ground breaking and media friendly! I can’t see how this won’t be a total WIN for John! I find it exhilarating and totally NECESSARY, Modern and forward in terms of spirit and philosophy.

One of my favorite clothing lines is All Saints Spitalfields and I have purchased harem jeans, STYLE: Gun, but have found that I need to lift the crotch a little with my sewing teacher due to the inability to run in them. I always wear clothing I can run in, just a necessary for me. I like to be able to move in case my mouth gets me into trouble! ha ha ha.. The Gun at All Saints is a little too aggressive in the harem department due to the heavy duty denim, but you can sling in some jersey cotton harems for sure…My H&M Harem jeans today are perfect. I had my sewing teacher take them in on the waist but the crotch hang is totally bad ass and perfect for movement, comfort and style!

I mention harem because John has, of course, incorporated this trend into his line and has a bad ass pair of cropped harems, and prolly more than those, I think I saw some cottony jersey type too… AND unisex… and I love them. Do it JOHN! I so knew you would do somthing “revolutionary”… in terms of philosophy, art, fashion and style…

Here is a story on John, scroll down:http://brooklynbased.net/email/2010/11/eastern-district-and-the-north-greenpoint-retail-explosion/

Entrepreneur- Not The Easiest Road, But Who Wants Easy?

My Pile of New Belts, I love MADRAS!

My Pile of New Belts, I love MADRAS!

On my snow day, Wednesday, I was shoveling and thinking, who wants the easy way out? If I didn’t have a challenge standing before me regarding achieving my business dream, what would I have at all? I know I am grateful for having self confidence, curiosity, a supportive family, and smart, good friends. At times I can become focused on what I haven’t accomplished yet with my business, but that doesn’t do any good! I have even been known to be envious of other women who’s husbands fund their ventures, but for real, from the bottom of my heart, I have to say now I wouldn’t have it any other way! I never in a million years thought I would come to that conclusion, but there is a lot to be said for being “self-made” for going through it all, learning, and enjoying the journey. I am enjoying it so much now, especially because I have taken a major step in educating myself about “business”.

I am more the creative force behind the brand, make the product and do literally everything right now, and it is invaluable, tiring, but stimulating! My second class at SCORE Norwalk kicked major a$$! It was lively, engaging, and informative. I also signed up to work with a mentor and am excited to find out who they pair me with now. Mr. York told me that his mother in law had a similar business to mine in the 60s which is neat. Maybe I can go talk to her sometime and get some wisdom. All I know is that I get a steady stream of phone calls from clients telling me they love my belts, they want more large, they want more men’s, they want to sell them, they want to carry them in their stores, and that used to frustrate me because I knew I couldn’t fulfill all their desires, but now that I am on the road to growing it, I feel much happier for those calls. I used to feel overwhelmed when customers would come into my tent and say you should do this, that and the other thing, and I would say, “Yes, I know, but I am one girl with a sewing machine.”

I had a great time talking with my friend Sue S. as well. She is taking the classes as well. She is a seasoned business woman who has a fresh perspective! It’s super fun to have something to be passionate about and I urge you, if you don’t have anything, try to think of something you can do for yourself or grow into a business. It is like the hardest puzzle or game you could conquer. It is not for everyone, but it sure is fun! You will have to go without, you will have to live smaller than you think, but you have purpose.

With that being said, I got a big pile of madras fabric to sew up, and I am pretty excited because it is great for men too! I will be making some larges too! YAY! Bring it on weekend, I have a lot to do and am grateful. www.olivergreenonline.com

Classes are Good For the Soul

Today was monumental in the fact that I actually attended a SCORE class tonight and it was packed! It feels like a step in the right direction to assist me in finishing up my business plan. I have already learned some stuff I didn’t know with respect to company formation strategies, etc. I also learned that I am an entrepreneur through and through, meaning when times get tough, I don’t fold.

I am excited about learning more about business and trying to figure out where to go next with my creative company, www.olivergreenonline.com ! I also signed up for a sewing class that begins in the Spring! I can’t wait to learn about patterns, lingo, and being able to make whatever it is I want. I am a master craft-er, but when it comes to being a seamstress, I fall short. I am a DIY’er to the core, and can figure most things out, but this sewing thing- making garments, totally intimidates me! If I want, I would love to try out for Project Runway, but I will have to know much, much more than I do now!

p.s. I also signed up for a couple hour course on energy and auras, a short one, cheap, and sure to be interesting. Oh, and today, I wondered why there aren’t a lot of Mercedes in my hood, ha ha ha, and today, the same car drove by twice, a gold Mercedes wagon, once with the lights off. I wonder if my accidental psychic powers are kicking in again! ;)

Happy New Year

I took my dog out in these nantucket shorts and uggs, and hot pink hoodie. I prefer to leave them on for today, however, I do have to go to work. I love old skool hoodies. All the guys at the firm wear levis, hoodies, carharts, bare feet, tees- they are so relaxed. They are all awesome, by the way! They are great family guys who are first class! So nice to be around guys who love their lives and wives! Back to my clothing,  I feel so comfortable, thanks Nicole for telling me not to wear sox with the boots. Won’t they eventually smell tho? ha ha ha ha
